BLOCK STUDIO PROJECT
The Block Studio Project is a network of arts and crafts donation studios. Each studio hosts specific genres and media, and invites you to take or donate materials, tools, or instructional literature. The drop down door also serves as work space, or you can participate in the ever changing neighborhood art piece that each Studio represents by adding your own design.
The Project was born in the center of the arts world - also known as Nordeast Minneapolis. We saw a disconnect between the plethora of professional artists and studios in the area and the lack of community based creation. As we talked to neighbors, each of whom had an interest in being creative, we were met by the familiar 'can't'. No money, no time, no space, no good. So we decided to do something about that can't. We started with one Studio, which was very well received. So we thought, why not 10? Now we are moving on towards 22! We are proud that each is provided and installed free to volunteer hosts, as each one is funded by sponsoring neighborhood organizations. Its a labor of love, built on the idea that creative literacy and community go hand in hand. And all you have to do is step up, open, and create.
HOST A STUDIO
We have a limited number of Studios that are offered free, with installation and start up stock, to residents of our funding neighborhoods (click below to see where). Contact us even if you live outside these areas and are interested in hosting - we're expanding soon.
SUPPORT A STUDIO
Contact us if you have lightly used tools, materials, books, and resources you would like to donate. Or find a Studio and put them in! We are also seeking volunteers to help run 20 minute Walk Up Workshops at rotating Studios.
VISIT A STUDIO
Just walk on up and participate. Make something, add to the design of the Studio, leave a dot-to-dot for someone else to finish. Click below to see a map of existing Studios, and a schedule of our upcoming 20 minute Walk Up Workshops.
